PhD Positions in Continuous Enzyme Evolution (2.0 FTE) (V24.0013)

Location: Stratingh Institute for Chemistry, University of Groningen, Netherlands
Eligibility/Qualification:
- MSc degree in (Bio)chemistry / Biotechnology or a related field.
- Experience in directed evolution, bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing, bioreactor design/application, or synthetic chemistry is a plus.
- Interest in working at the interface of chemistry and synthetic biology.
- Ability to work independently.
Job Description: As a PhD candidate, you will:
- Engineer enzymes at an unprecedented rate and scale using continuous evolution approaches.
- Construct, automate, and apply a continuous evolution platform to engineer enzymes for C-C, C-halogen, or C-N bond-forming reactions.
- Utilize third-generation sequencing techniques and bioinformatics tools to map sequence-structure-function relationships of biocatalysts.
Conditions of Employment:
- Salary ranging from €2,770 to €3,539 gross per month based on a full-time position.
- Four-year position with the option of renewal for another three years.
- University PhD training program enrollment in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering.
- Preferred starting date between 01-05-2024 and 01-08-2024.
