PhD Positions in Inorganic Chemistry: Two exciting PhD positions are available in the lab of Prof. Jayaraman at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), starting in Fall 2025. These positions are fully funded and offer a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in main-group chemistry, with a focus on molecular chemistry and material applications. Two Fully-Funded PhD Positions in Inorganic Chemistry (Main-Group Chemistry) at UNLV

Designation: PhD Student

Research Area:
Main-group chemistry (Group 13-15), focusing on low-valent and/or cationic low-coordinate compounds, small molecule activation, catalysis, and material chemistry applications.

Location:
Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Las Vegas, NV, USA

Eligibility/Qualification:

• Master’s degree in synthetic inorganic or organic chemistry.
• Research experience in relevant topics is preferred.
• For international students: Proficiency in English (TOEFL or IELTS, with exemptions possible).

Job Description:

• Conduct experimental and computational research on low-valent main-group compounds.
• Prepare and handle air- and moisture-sensitive reagents using techniques like glovebox, Schlenk line, and photoreactors.
• Perform NMR, UV-Vis, IR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry.
• Conduct single-crystal X-ray crystallography, including data collection and structure solutions.
• Familiarize with quantum-chemical computations.
• Mentor undergraduate and postgraduate research students.
• Collaborate on national and international research projects.
• Prepare manuscripts for publications and present findings at conferences.
• Write proposals for scholarships, fellowships, and awards.
