PhD Positions in Organic/Polymer Chemistry: The Kilbinger group at the University of Fribourg’s Chemistry Department is offering two funded PhD positions starting at the end of 2024 or early 2025. The positions focus on mechanistic organic chemistry with an emphasis on polymer chemistry. Candidates with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemistry and a strong knowledge of organic reaction mechanisms are encouraged to apply. Applications from GATE-qualified candidates in India will be given preference.

  • Excellent knowledge of organic reaction mechanisms
  • Prior knowledge of polymer chemistry is not required and can be acquired during the PhD studies
  • Preference will be given to applicants from India who have passed the GATE examination

Job Description

The successful candidates will join the Kilbinger group and work on the synthesis and characterization of polymeric foldamers based on aromatic amides. The research involves:

  • Synthetic organic chemistry of small molecules
  • Molecular characterization
  • Controlled polymerization into helical tubular structures

Candidates should be enthusiastic about working in an organic/polymer synthesis laboratory and should review the following manuscripts for an understanding of the research area: Macromolecules 2023, 56, 7984; Nat. Chem. 2021, 13, 705.
