PhD Positions in Soft Robotics: The Soft Machines and Robotic Systems group, led by Prof. Aniket Pal, at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, invites applications for fully funded PhD positions in the field of soft robotics. This research group is part of the Institute of Applied Mechanics at the University of Stuttgart. The successful candidates will engage in innovative research, gain experimental and numerical skills, publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, and prepare for a successful research career in academia. The initial contract will be for 3 years, with the possibility of extension up to 5 years.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Strong background in mechanics.
- Relevant experimental skills, including fabrication, 3D printing, and mechanical/material characterization.
- Lab experience working with soft materials.
- Numerical skills (FEM, 3D modeling, Python, etc.) will be considered positively.
- Backgrounds in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or materials science are suitable, but a passion for science is essential.
- Ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team.
- Good communication (written and verbal) skills.
Job Description: The research in the Soft Machines and Robotic Systems group focuses on soft robotics, with interests in responsive materials, mechanical instabilities, mechanical metamaterials, and soft sensors. Soft robotics involves the use of intrinsically soft (polymeric) materials for robotic actuators and sensors, opening up exciting possibilities for innovative designs and control. The successful candidates will:
