NCBS Recruitment - national centre for biological sciences

PhD Positions in the Organ Mechanobiology Lab: The Organ Mechanobiology lab at NCBS-TIFR is inviting applications for passionate and motivated PhD candidates interested in researching the interface of cell biology, developmental biology, and tissue mechanics, utilizing C. elegans as a model organism.

Designation

PhD Candidate

Research Area

  • Cell Biology
  • Developmental Biology
  • Tissue Mechanics

Location

NCBS-TIFR (National Centre for Biological Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research), Bangalore, India

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Candidates holding a CSIR, DBT, or ICMR fellowship are preferred.
  • Prior research experience in relevant fields (especially with C. elegans, imaging, or quantitative image analysis) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Applicants should exhibit curiosity, commitment, and a passion for learning in the realms of cell and developmental biology.

Job Description

The selected PhD candidates will explore how mechanical forces and biochemical signals guide organ morphogenesis and function. They will employ interdisciplinary approaches, including:

  • Tissue-specific genetic manipulations
  • CRISPR-based knock-in/out techniques
  • Quantitative live imaging
  • Transcriptomics
  • Biophysical methods such as laser ablations, optogenetics, and microfluidics for high-throughput imaging.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should carefully complete the application form available on the NCBS-TIFR website before or by the deadline. Applications will be screened upon receipt, and selected candidates will be invited for online or in-person interviews to assess their motivation and technical capability in pursuing a career in cell and developmental biology.
