Research Area
The research aims to uncover microbial metabolic and immunological pathways that contribute to intestinal colonization resistance and involves multiple innovative approaches including:
- Microbiome composition and C. difficile infection resistance
- Microbiome xenotransplantation in germ-free mice
- Synthetic bacterial communities design
- Genetic modification of C. difficile for tracking dynamics
- Mathematical modeling of colonization resistance parameters
Location
University of Bern, Switzerland
Eligibility/Qualification
Ideal candidates should have:
- Strong academic performance and solid foundational knowledge in biology/microbiology.
- Scientific curiosity, integrity, and excellent analytical skills.
- Proficiency in basic wet-lab techniques, including molecular biology and cell biology.
- Experience in areas like animal models (especially infection models or gnotobiology), microbiome analysis, microbial genetics, or mathematical modeling is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Description
The selected candidates will be part of the NCCR Microbiomes and the Multidisciplinary Center for Infectious Diseases (MCID), gaining access to top-tier facilities and training programs. The positions are full-time (100%), with options for reduced hours (60-80%) to accommodate personal obligations. Fixed-term contracts are initially for one year, renewable for at least three additional years.
