Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in biology, ecology, genetics, or evolutionary biology.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience with bioinformatics and handling large genomics or ecological datasets.
  • Fieldwork experience, with bird handling experience as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of laboratory work, ideally with DNA extraction, quantification, and library preparation.

Job Description: The PhD project will focus on adaptation in house sparrows, exploring the phenotypic and genomic basis of adaptation to changing temperatures. The project involves multidisciplinary approaches, including ecology, genomics, ancient DNA, and evolutionary biology. The successful candidate will address questions related to parallel and non-parallel adaptation, the impact of temperature changes on thermal adaptation over the last century, and the evolutionary trade-offs of adapting to extreme temperatures.
