Study Area: Functional Characterisation of Ctenophore Neurons

Scholarship Description: This 4-year PhD position is affiliated with the Michael Sars Centre and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bergen. The project focuses on understanding the evolutionary origin of neurons in ctenophores. The successful candidate will employ techniques such as morpholino knockdowns, Crispr/Cas9 knockouts, calcium imaging, laser ablations, and electrophysiology to functionally characterise ctenophore neurons.

Eligibility: Applicants must have a master’s degree or its equivalent in biology, with routine experience in molecular and cellular biology. Proficiency in English is required, and practical experience in gene delivery, knockdowns/knockouts, microscopy, and calcium imaging is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate impeccable work ethics, discipline, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
