Research Area
The research area includes the development of an integrated hybrid biofilm-enzyme-based reactor technology aimed at reducing energy consumption in wastewater treatment processes, specifically focusing on nitrogen and pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs).

Eligibility/Qualification
- A master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent in Engineering (Environmental, Process, Chemical, Biological, Biotechnological, etc.).
- Completion of the degree before the application deadline.
- A weighted average grade of B or higher is usually required for admission to the doctoral program.
- Experience or knowledge in bioprocess, biotechnology, and environmental technologies is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team.
Job Description
The PhD candidate will:
- Develop new hybrid biofilm-enzyme-based reactors for efficient nitrogen and PhACs treatment in wastewater.
- Explore the advantages of membrane aerated biofilm and aerobic granular sludge reactors.
- Investigate the integration of enzyme technology to optimize the energy efficiency of wastewater treatment plants.
- Engage in interdisciplinary research as part of the Energy Efficient and Sustainable Treatment (ESWAT) project funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
