PhD Research Fellowship in Glycomics and Sepsis, Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway

Postdoc in Norway

Summary

Oslo Metropolitan University is offering a three-year PhD fellowship to investigate the use of glycomics to diagnose sepsis. This interdisciplinary project, in collaboration with the SEPSOMICS project group at Oslo University Hospital, aims to identify subpopulations of sepsis patients by their glycoprotein profiles to improve diagnostics and facilitate precision treatment.

Eligibility

To qualify for this fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Master’s degree (120 credits/ECTS) in pharmacy, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biomedicine, or an equivalent field.
  • Academic Grades: A grade of B or above in the master’s thesis/major thesis and an overall grade corresponding to B or above in the master’s degree (Candidates with a C may be considered with highly relevant experience).
  • Experience: Documented experience in relevant biochemical laboratory work. Experience in biological mass spectrometry, glycomics, omics/big data, or AI/machine learning for health outcome prediction is considered an advantage.
  • Language: Proficiency in both written and spoken English. Proficiency in a Scandinavian language is an advantage.

Scholarship Description

Sepsis is a severe inflammatory condition with high mortality rates (15% to 30%). This project will explore the glycobiology of sepsis, aiming to identify glycan-based biomarkers for patient stratification and improved outcomes. The candidate will study altered plasma glycosylation in sepsis patients and glycosylation patterns of extracellular vesicles.

The selected candidate will work with a world-class team using state-of-the-art MS and non-MS-based glycomics and a high-quality biobank of Norwegian sepsis patients. Candidates will also be eligible to apply for a stipend for an extended international research secondment.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the electronic recruitment system. You must upload the following documents (in English or a certified translation from a Scandinavian language):

  1. Letter of application stating your reasons for applying and what makes you qualified.
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  3. All pages of certificates/diplomas (must include ECTS grades A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English.
  4. Your master’s degree/second degree thesis and a list of your publications (if relevant).
  5. A list of at least two references (along with any reference letters).
