PhD Scholarship at IDAEA-CSIC: The Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) is offering two fully-funded PhD positions to conduct research on upscaling transport processes in partially-saturated porous media as part of the ERC Starting Grant project “Uplift.” The goal of the project is to develop upscaled models for transport, mixing, and reaction in the vadose zone by understanding pore-scale dynamics.
Designation
PhD Research Positions (2 positions)
| Research Area | Location |
|---|---|
| Upscaling Transport Processes in Partially-Saturated Porous Media | Barcelona, Spain |
Eligibility/Qualification
- Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
Background and Skills
- Theoretical background in stochastic modeling and transport processes.
- Experience in scientific programming (preferably C++).
- Interest in collaborative and multidisciplinary research.
- Proficiency in English.
Description
Successful candidates will focus on two main research themes:
- Stochastic mixing and reactions
- Development of stochastic models of mixing and reactions in heterogeneous, partially saturated porous media.
- Multiscale reactive transport modeling
- Creation of a hybrid multiscale model for reactive transport at the field scale.
Research will involve theoretical and numerical modeling, collaboration with the Uplift research team and external partners, and model validation against experimental data.
