Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree or engineering degree in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or Polymer Materials Science (or an equivalent field).
  • Strong background in chemical techniques, polymer properties in solution, and their interactions.
  • Experience with polymer characterization techniques.
  • Curiosity, problem-solving skills, and an open-minded approach to research.

Job Description

The PhD project aims to develop novel biomedical adhesives by functionalizing polysaccharides to modulate their interactions. The research involves:

  • Performing double chemical modification of polysaccharides using green chemistry methods.
  • Studying polymer/polymer interactions and the formation of polyelectrolyte complexes.
  • Chemically grafting polysaccharides with opposite charges and analyzing synthesis parameters.
  • Investigating the mechanical and structural properties of the resulting hydrogels.
  • Developing surfaces mimicking underwater bioadhesion for biomedical applications.
  • Conducting comprehensive material characterization, including mechanical (tensile, adhesion) and structural analysis.
  • The research will be conducted under the supervision of Alexandra Montembault, Aurelia Charlot, and Guillaume Sudre.
