Eligibility/Qualification

  • Applicants must review the Higher Degree by Research minimum entry requirements.
  • Must be able to undertake the project on-campus.
  • Essential criteria:
  • Advanced knowledge of plant hydraulics.
  • Experience with water relations tools (e.g., Scholander pressure chamber).
  • Desirable criteria:
  • Capacity for physical fieldwork, including tree climbing.
  • Understanding of physical principles of plant water relations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues.
  • Ability to manage and maintain large datasets.

Description

This research project aims to discover elusive species-specific plant behaviors in the regulation of gas exchange. By employing new sensing technologies, researchers will study the dynamic responses of tree species to environmental changes over various temporal scales. This will enhance our understanding of water use and requirements in diverse soil contexts, focusing on key Tasmanian species, including the world’s tallest flowering plant and various ancient conifers.

How to Apply

  1. Select the project and ensure eligibility based on the selection criteria.
  2. Contact Professor Tim Brodribb to discuss suitability and project requirements.
  3. Prepare your application:
  • Include the project title in your application.
  • Submit a signed supervisory support form.
  • Provide a CV with contact details of two referees.
  • Include a project research proposal.
  1. Submit your application before the closing date.
