Research Area

The project involves multi-disciplinary research combining peptide chemistry, medicinal chemistry, electrophysiology, and structural biology.

Location

Institute for Molecular Bioscience, University of Queensland, St Lucia

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Previous academic record, publication record, and employment history will be assessed competitively.
  • A working knowledge of solid-phase peptide synthesis and NMR analysis is beneficial.
  • Candidates should demonstrate academic achievements in medicinal chemistry, peptide-based drug discovery, and development.

Description

Chronic pain affects millions globally, and this project seeks to develop non-addictive alternatives to traditional analgesics. The focus is on conotoxins found in marine cone snails, which may be modified for enhanced selectivity and pharmacokinetics. The successful candidate will engage in peptide design and synthesis, using state-of-the-art facilities and techniques.
