PhD Scholarship: Genomic Architecture, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom
PhD Scholarship: Genomic Architecture: The University of Edinburgh offers an exciting PhD opportunity to unravel the genomic mechanisms behind karyotypic evolution and speciation in guenons, the most genetically diverse African primates. This project explores chromosomal structural variants, evolutionary processes, and genomic features influencing gene flow. Successful candidates will utilize cutting-edge genomic technologies and collaborate with international experts to contribute to a significant body of evolutionary biology.

Job Description

The PhD project aims to:

  1. Investigate chromosomal regions prone to breaking and genome features associated with fissions and fusions.
  2. Study the emergence of novel centromeres on new chromosomes.
  3. Assess the evolutionary consequences of chromosomal rearrangements on recombination and gene flow.
  4. Utilize long-read sequencing, PacBio HiFi, and Hi-C data from 14 guenon species to analyze chromosomal diversity.
  5. Collaborate with researchers from the UK, Sweden, and France in a computationally focused project.

How to Apply

  1. Prepare your CV and a brief letter of interest detailing your passion and suitability for the project.
  2. Contact Dr. Katerina Guschanski at Katerina.Guschanski@ed.ac.uk with your materials and any informal queries.
