Fully Funded PhD Scholarship in 2D Materials, TU/e, Netherlands

Postdoc in Netherlands

PhD Scholarship in 2D Materials: Are you interested in pioneering the miniaturization of electronic structures and contributing to the development of novel patterning schemes in collaboration with ASML? Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) offers a fully funded PhD scholarship opportunity to work on resist-free patterning of 2D materials such as MoS2 and WS2 using extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography and area-selective processing technologies.

Fully Funded PhD Scholarship in Patterning of 2D Materials by EUV Light and Area-Selective Processing

Designation: PhD-student

Research Area:
The PhD project aims to work towards a new paradigm of resist-free patterning of 2D materials, specifically focusing on 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and their integration in ultra-scaled CMOS devices.

Location:
The work will be conducted at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the group Plasma & Materials Processing and in the NanoLab cleanroom at the Department of Applied Physics.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A highly talented, enthusiastic, and exceptionally motivated candidate with an MSc degree (or equivalent) in (Applied) Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • Strong background in either physics or chemistry.
  • Experience in the areas of patterning, surface science, or thin film deposition would be an asset.
  • Interest in device fabrication schemes.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).

Job Description:
The successful candidate will:

  • Investigate the interaction of photons, electrons, and plasmas with 2D materials using in-situ techniques.
  • Develop area-selective processes, analyze the deposited films, and demonstrate selectivity.
  • Report results to collaborators, prepare scientific papers, and present at conferences.
  • Supervise BSc and MSc students on a daily basis.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates are invited to submit a complete application consisting of:

  • A cover letter explaining motivation and qualifications for the position, highlighting specific interest in this project.
  • Detailed CV.
  • List of publications and conference contributions.
  • Names and contact information of two or more references.

Applications should be submitted through the official application portal on the university’s website.

Last Date for Apply:
Screening of applications will commence upon receipt and will continue until the position has been filled.

For further information or inquiries about the application process, candidates may contact the hiring manager, Dr. Ir. A. Mackus, via email at a.j.m.mackus@tue.nl or visit the Eindhoven University of Technology website.
