PhD Scholarship in AI-Generated Medical Content: The University of St Andrews and Macquarie University are jointly offering a scholarship for an exceptional candidate to undertake doctoral research focused on identifying and mitigating biases in AI-generated medical content. This research aims to enhance the equitable use of AI in healthcare, ultimately influencing clinical decisions and patient care.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Must meet admission and scholarship criteria for both universities.
  • Ideal candidates will have a background in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or AI evaluation.
  • Candidates must not already hold a doctoral degree or be enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of St Andrews, Macquarie University, or any other institution.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will research the following areas:

  • Systematic evaluation of demographic, cognitive, and social biases in medical AI outputs.
  • Investigation of the effects of AI acquiescence on diagnostic accuracy.
  • Analysis of AI’s handling of stigmatised conditions.
  • Development and testing of bias detection and mitigation tools for clinical AI systems.
  • Creation of frameworks for safe AI deployment in healthcare settings.

Duration of the award is up to three and a half years, with the student expected to spend equal time at both universities.
