PhD Scholarship in Artificial Face Perception: This scholarship is aimed at supporting a PhD project focused on understanding how individuals perceive real and artificial faces, particularly images manipulated by AI such as Deepfakes and AI-generated images. The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research to explore the cognitive and perceptual differences in recognizing artificial faces.
Scholarship Opportunity: Individual Differences in Artificial Face Perception
Designation
PhD Scholarship in Individual Differences in Artificial Face Perception
Field | Details |
---|---|
Research Area | Perception, Vision, Cognition, Behaviour, AI |
Location | School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences, QMUL, London |
Funding | China Scholarship Council (CSC) |
Eligibility/Qualification
- A first or upper-second class honours degree and a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Knowledge in programming (e.g., Matlab, R, Python), psychophysics, eye tracking, and computer graphics is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Must meet the IELTS requirements for the course.
Description
The project, supervised by Dr Emma Stewart and co-supervised by Prof Isabelle Mareschal, will investigate the factors that contribute to individual differences in the perception of artificial faces and images. With the growing sophistication of technologies used to create Deepfakes and AI images, understanding how different people perceive these manipulated images is increasingly important. The candidate will utilize behavioural, psychophysical, and eye-tracking methods to inform their research.
The research environment includes active collaborations globally and training opportunities in innovative experimental and analytical techniques.
