PhD Scholarship in B-Cell:
The Laboratory of Experimental Hematology at the University of Antwerp’s Vaccine & Infectious Disease Institute is currently offering a fully funded PhD scholarship opportunity. Fully Funded PhD Scholarship in B-Cell Lymphoid Malignancies Research

Designation: PhD Fellow

Research Area: B-Cell Lymphoid Malignancies, with a particular focus on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and the role of the microenvironment in CLL, contributing to the development of novel immunotherapies.

Location: Laboratory for Experimental Hematology, University of Antwerp, located on the site of the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) in Edegem, Belgium

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree recognized by the EU in Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology, or Pharmacy
  • Excellent study results
  • Teaching competencies in line with the educational vision of the University of Antwerp
  • Research qualities in line with the faculty and university research policy
  • Strong interest in basic science research, B-cell immunology, cancer immunology, and/or cell biology
  • Skills or strong interest in developing skills in cell biology, confocal microscopy, high-dimensional flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, and bioinformatics
  • Basic knowledge of planning scientific experiments and statistical analysis
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with a very good knowledge of academic English
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Description:
The successful candidate will actively work on the preparation and defense of a doctoral thesis in the field of B-cell lymphoid malignancies, focusing on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and studying the role of the microenvironment in CLL. Responsibilities will include publishing scientific articles related to the research project, and contributing to the development of novel immunotherapies. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic and stimulating environment, with the chance to train and develop skills in the latest technologies such as high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing, multiparameter confocal microscopy, and bioinformatic analyses.
