PhD Scholarship in Biochemistry: The University of Bordeaux offers a PhD scholarship in Biochemistry focused on the study of interactions of disordered translation initiation factors and their contributions to protein and protein-RNA condensates. This project aims to explore the dynamics of intrinsically disordered proteins and their roles in molecular recognition and cellular processes.
Designation
PhD Candidate in Biochemistry under the supervision of Mikayel Aznauryan.

Research Area | Protein-RNA Interactions by Structural Methods |
Location | University of Bordeaux, France |
Start Date | October 1, 2025 |
Application Deadline | March 17, 2025 at 23:59 (GMT Paris) |
Research Area
This scholarship focuses on:
- Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs)
- Biomolecular condensates
- Biomolecular interactions and conformational dynamics
Eligibility/Qualification
Candidates must possess:
- A national master’s degree or equivalent from a foreign institution.
- Previous experience in bacterial cell culturing, protein expression, and purification is advantageous.
- Experience with protein fluorescence labeling and work with disordered proteins or nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) is preferred.
Description
The PhD project investigates a subgroup of eukaryotic translation initiation factors (e.g., eIF4H, eIF4B) which are largely disordered yet engaged in mRNA translation initiation. The study will include their roles in stress granules and their interactions within cellular condensates, utilizing advanced techniques including single-molecule FRET spectroscopy and imaging to reveal the molecular mechanisms of LLPS (liquid-liquid phase separation).
How to Apply
