Study Area: The research subject for this Ph.D. position is Biology, specifically focusing on sustaining marine biodiversity under climate change. The project involves developing models of future species distributions and seascape connectivity to ensure the ecological coherence of the Swedish Baltic Sea MPA network.
Scholarship Description:
PhD Scholarship in Biology – Specialization in Ecology at SLU
This Ph.D. project is part of a broader research initiative addressing the challenges posed by climate change to marine biodiversity. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of models assessing the ecological coherence of the Swedish Baltic Sea MPA network under climate change. The project aims to spatially quantify connectivity, evaluate the effectiveness of the current MPA network, and propose expansions to maximize biodiversity conservation.
Eligibility: We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong analytical profile and good communication skills. A master’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, ecology, limnology, marine ecology, environmental science, sustainable development, or similar is required. Proficiency in R (or other programming languages), GIS, and mathematical/statistical modeling is highly meriting. Knowledge of marine protected areas, nature conservation analyses, and the Baltic Sea or other aquatic environments is advantageous. Strong written and spoken English is required.
Required Documents: Applicants must submit:
- Written application and CV
- Degree project
- Copies of degree certificate and transcript of records
- Two personal references
