PhD Scholarship in Chemical Engineering: Applications are invited for a fully funded 3-year PhD studentship in Chemical Engineering at Swansea University. This scholarship, funded by EPSRC and Swansea University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, focuses on the fluid dynamics of glacial sediments. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working on a collaborative project between the Glaciology and Complex Fluids Research Groups.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree at 2.1 level (or Non-UK equivalent) in Engineering or a relevant science discipline.
  • Proficiency in English (IELTS 6.5 Overall, with no individual component below 5.5, or Swansea University recognized equivalent).
  • Open to candidates of any nationality.

Job Description:

Fully Funded EPSRC and Swansea University PhD Scholarship in Chemical Engineering: Fluid Dynamics of Glacial Sediments (RS484)

  • Investigate the complex flow behavior of glacial sediments.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments to measure fluid flow and deformation in the sediment bed.
  • Develop theoretical models for glacier-sediment interactions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

Funding:

  • Full cost of tuition fees covered.
  • Annual stipend at UKRI rate (£18,622 for 2023/24).
  • Additional research expenses provided.
