Eligibility/Qualification
- Degree Requirements: 1st class or 2.1 honours Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (e.g., Manufacturing Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Materials Science).
- Skills Required:
- Knowledge of computational modeling for science or engineering problems.
- Proficiency in computer programming (e.g., C++, Python).
- Understanding of material processing/manufacturing and material testing/characterization.
- Problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills.
- Additional Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, self-motivation, teamwork spirit, and a strong passion for research excellence.
Job Description
The selected candidate will contribute to:
- Developing a multi-physics computational model to predict the interaction between additive manufacturing (AM) processes and the reuse/recycling of waste titanium alloys.
- Training machine learning models for rapid calculation and data-informed decisions on material recycling.
- Experimental research, including printing titanium alloy specimens and characterizing their material properties for model validation.
- Collaborating with other research groups within the I-Form Research Centre and engaging in potential placements at Prof. David Browne’s laboratory.
Scholarship Details:
- Stipend: €22,000 per annum.
- University Fees: €5,500 per annum (covered by the scholarship).
- Start Date: 3rd February, 2025.
