PhD Scholarship in Computing Devices, University of Groningen, Netherlands

Postdoc in Netherlands

PhD Scholarship in Computing Devices: The University of Groningen is offering a 4-year PhD scholarship focusing on the security and privacy aspects of neuromorphic computing devices. This interdisciplinary project aims to investigate the susceptibility of neuromorphic chips to side-channel attacks and their potential for implementing security-critical functions. The successful candidate will work within the Information Systems Group of the Computer Science Department, supervised by Dr. Fatih Turkmen.

PhD Scholarship in Security and Privacy of Neuromorphic Computing Devices

Study Area: Security and Privacy of Neuromorphic Computing Devices

Location: University of Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Interested candidates should have a keen interest in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of side-channel attacks, hardware security, and circuit design.
  • Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in electronics engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and a positive attitude towards interdisciplinary collaboration are essential.
  • Publications in reputable international journals/conferences related to side channels and hardware security will be advantageous.

Description: The PhD project will explore the security vulnerabilities of neuromorphic chips against side-channel attacks, focusing on memristor-based designs and their suitability for implementing Physically Uncloneable Functions (PUFs). The research will begin at the circuit level, analyzing the security properties of memristors and investigating potential vulnerabilities. The candidate will contribute to producing research articles for peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, culminating in a PhD thesis.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit the following documents:

  1. Letter of motivation
  2. Curriculum vitae (CV) including contact information for at least two academic references
  3. Transcripts from bachelor’s and master’s degrees

Applications must be submitted by March 26th, 2024, 11:59 pm Dutch local time (CET) through the university’s application form available on the advertisement on the university website.
