Research Area:
The project focuses on designing and synthesizing novel steroidal MRAs to offer safer and more efficient treatments for heart failure. The goal is to develop selective MRAs that minimize the adverse effects seen in current medications by targeting the heart’s mineralocorticoid receptor.
Location:
Based at the Ferrier Research Institute, Gracefield Research Centre, in Wellington, New Zealand. The candidate must be in New Zealand or able to relocate for the duration of the study.
Eligibility/Qualification:
Applicants must have a GPA of 7.5 or greater on a 9-point scale, hold a First Class Honours or Master’s grade, and demonstrate fluency in English. International candidates can apply if they plan to study in New Zealand under a student visa.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will work on compound design using molecular modelling software, perform multi-step chemical syntheses, purify and characterize target compounds, conduct HPLC analysis, and collaborate with the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.
