PhD Scholarship in Epidemiological Modelling at University of Bristol: The University of Bristol is offering a PhD scholarship aimed at constructing an epidemiological modeling framework designed to maintain health security against resurgent infectious diseases. This project seeks to understand the dynamics of infectious diseases and develop strategies to prevent their resurgence post-elimination.
Designation
PhD Candidate
Research Area
Epidemiology, Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases, Public Health
Location
University of Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom
Eligibility/Qualification
- A degree in Mathematics, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field
- Proficiency in mathematical modelling techniques
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or Matlab is preferred
- Strong analytical skills and ability to perform literature reviews
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders
Description
The project will explore:
- Robust definitions of disease elimination based on the risk of resurgence
- Taxonomy of diseases that have seen resurgence and their underlying reasons
- Mathematical conditions leading to resurgence following successful elimination campaigns
- Modelling tools to support policy decisions regarding disease resurgence
- Evaluation of potential resurgence cases in real-world settings beyond 2030 (e.g., viral hepatitis)
The selected candidate will receive training in quantitative methodologies, literature review techniques, advanced statistical analysis, and effective communication of scientific results. Opportunities for attending conferences, summer schools, and a work placement with UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) will be available.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their application, including a CV, cover letter, and any relevant certificates through the University of Bristol’s application portal.
