Eligibility/Qualifications

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Meet the entry requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy, including English language requirements for international students.
  • Be able to enroll as a full-time, internal student commencing their degree in February 2026.
  • Hold a recent first-class Honours degree, a research Master’s degree, or a coursework Master’s degree with a significant research component in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in undertaking a three-year research project on generative AI and academic research.
  • Develop a research proposal aligned with the scholarship topic and articulate the contribution their research will make.
  • Show excellent capacity and potential for research.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with the academic publishing industry or academic library sector.
  • Familiarity with qualitative research methodologies, including conference ethnographic and/or digital ethnographic approaches (e.g., interview and focus group research, discourse analysis, app walkthrough methods).

Job Description

As a PhD scholarship recipient, you will:

  • Conduct innovative research on the intersection of generative AI and academic research.
  • Collaborate with leading researchers in the Digital Media Research Centre.
  • Contribute to the project “Generative AI and the future of academic writing and publishing.”
