Fully Funded PhD Scholarship in Molecular Biology – Umeå University, Sweden

Postdoc Position (2 years) 2019 in Sweden, Umeå University

PhD Scholarship in Molecular Biology: Umeå University is offering a fully funded PhD scholarship in Molecular Biology, focused on parasite-vector interactions, starting in October 2024. The successful applicant will join a dynamic research environment, collaborating internationally to unravel the molecular mechanisms controlling malaria parasite development in mosquitoes.

Designation: PhD Student in Molecular Biology

Research Area: The research will center on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms governing malaria parasite development in mosquitoes, aiming to understand the transmission of malaria and contribute to strategies for its prevention.

Location: Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed degree at second-cycle level equivalent to 240 ECTS credits, including at least 60 ECTS credits at second-cycle level.
  • Completed at least 90 credits in the main field of study molecular biology, including courses in chemistry, cell and molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English.
  • Prior research experience and a specific motivation to conduct research in the subject area are considered substantial merits.

Job Description:
The successful applicant will develop a research project to investigate molecular determinants of parasite development and their implications for malaria transmission. Utilizing novel CRISPR screening, single cell transcriptomic, metabolic modeling, and cryoEM technologies, the PhD student will contribute to advancing the understanding of malaria parasite biology and host-vector interactions.

How to Apply:
