Study Area

This scholarship focuses on electron beam imaging, particularly in simulating SEM images. It addresses the challenges in correctly interpreting SEM images, which are vital in nanoscale innovations across sectors like semiconductors and medical research.

Scholarship Description

PhD Scholarship in Simulation of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Images

As a PhD student at TU Delft, you’ll collaborate with ASML to develop simulation models for SEM images. This project aims to understand the physics behind image formation in SEMs, including phenomena caused by surface charges. You will translate these models into software and conduct simulations. The unique opportunity to compare your simulations with real SEM images using state-of-the-art equipment will be part of your role.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you should have an MSc in Applied Physics or Electrical Engineering. You should also possess skills in modeling, C++ and Python programming, and have a deep knowledge of solid-state physics. An interest or experience in electron-matter interaction, condensed matter physics, or electron beam imaging is highly beneficial.

Required Documents

To apply, prepare the following documents:

  1. Motivation letter (max. half A4) focusing on the project.
  2. Detailed CV (max. 2 pages).
  3. Copies of your BSc and MSc degrees and transcripts.
  4. Contact information for at least two relevant references.

How to Apply

Submit your application online through the provided application form on the TU Delft website.

Last Date

The application deadline is October 15th, 2023. Don’t miss this opportunity to advance your career in fundamental research and contribute to innovative industrial applications.
