Fully Funded PhD Scholarship in Structural Biology at Helmholtz Munich, Germany

Postdoc in Germany

PhD Scholarship in Structural Biology: Helmholtz Munich offers a fully funded PhD scholarship in Structural Biology at the Alderson Lab within the Institute of Structural Biology. This scholarship presents a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research, gain expertise in structural biology methods, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge.

Designation:
PhD Position in Structural Biology

Research Area:
The Alderson Lab focuses on understanding how proteins in the heat shock and cell death pathways sense and react to stress. The research incorporates an integrative approach using NMR spectroscopy, cryo-EM, and AI-based protein structure prediction methods.

Location:
Garching, Germany (with Home Office Options)

Eligibility/Qualification:
Exceptional students holding a Master’s degree in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, molecular biology, pharmacy, or structural biology are encouraged to apply. A strong interest in structural biology, NMR, and/or intrinsically disordered protein regions, along with demonstrable experience in molecular biology, protein science, or structural biology, is required. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is also essential.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will reconstitute biomolecular complexes in vitro using molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, structurally characterize proteins and their complexes using advanced methods such as NMR spectroscopy and cryo-electron microscopy, engage in molecular modeling with AI-based protein structure prediction methods, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and publish findings in international journals, and present findings at national and international research conferences.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit the following documents to Reid Alderson at reid.alderson@helmholtz-munich.de:

  • CV
  • Contact details for at least two referees
  • Cover letter
  • Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates

Last Date for Apply:
