Designation
PhD Position in Cryo-EM and Structural Biology (f/m/d)
Research Area
- Molecular Mechanism of Microbiome-Driven Carcinogenesis
- Cryogenic Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM)
- Structural Biology
- Protein Biochemistry
- Biophysics
Location
Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP), Berlin, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification
- Education: Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field with excellent grades.
- Experience: Profound experience in protein biochemistry or electron microscopy. Previous experience in structural biology (cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography) is advantageous.

Job Description
The successful candidate will join the Junior Research Group led by Dr. Daniel Roderer to investigate the molecular mechanisms of Fusobacterium nucleatum autotransporter adhesin binding to human target cells. The project involves:
- Analyzing complexes between bacterial adhesins and human cell surface receptors.
- Utilizing cryogenic electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) and cryo tomography (Cryo-ET) to achieve near-atomic resolution of these interactions both in vitro and within cellular environments.
This position is initially limited to three years, with the potential for extension. The salary is based on the German public sector scheme (TVöD Bund), and the position is 65% of a full-time role.
