PhD Scholarship in Sustainable Biocatalysis: The Laboratory of Biosystems Chemistry of Natural Products at the Department of Bioscience, Technical University of Munich (TUM), invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Sustainable Biocatalysis. The position is supervised by Prof. Ana I. Benítez-Mateos and offers the opportunity to work in a young, dynamic research group within state-of-the-art laboratory facilities in Munich, Germany. The research focuses on enzyme stabilization and sustainable synthesis of high-value natural products.

Eligibility / Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundation in biochemical reactions, molecular biology, and protein chemistry
  • Prior research experience with enzymatic assays is desirable
  • Familiarity with computational tools such as PyMOL or Chimera is an advantage but not mandatory
  • High motivation to work in interdisciplinary and sustainability-focused research

Job Description

  • Develop novel methodologies to enhance enzyme stability using intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs)
  • Design and assemble enzymatic cascades for sustainable synthesis
  • Conduct experimental research relevant to pharmaceuticals, food additives, and other high-value molecules
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary research team
  • Present research findings in scientific meetings and publications
