Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in plant biology, forest sciences, plant biochemistry, plant pathology, microbiology, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following is desired:
  • Plant molecular biology (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, cloning)
  • Biochemistry (e.g., metabolomics using LC-MS, extraction and purification of plant metabolites)
  • Bioinformatics (amplicon sequencing/metagenomics)
  • Strong interest in tree-microbe interactions, tree defense mechanisms, and forest pathology.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Description

The research project will examine the impact of tree defense metabolites on microbial community structure and function, focusing on both pathogenic and beneficial microbes associated with economically important forest tree species. Methodologies will include metabolomics, microbiome profiling, microbial culturing, bioassays, as well as greenhouse and field experiments. This position is part of the newly established Forest Phytopathobiomes Lab led by Prof. Dr. Chhana Ullah.
