PhD Scholarship: Molecular Spectroscopy, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Postdoc in Netherlands

PhD Scholarship: Molecular Spectroscopy: The Faculty of Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applications for a PhD position in Molecular Spectroscopy, focusing on precision measurements of weakly-bound states of H2+ in the THz range to test Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) predictions. Join the Quantum Metrology group at LaserLaB Amsterdam and contribute to cutting-edge research in quantum technologies and experimental physics.

PhD Scholarship Opportunity: Precision Measurements of Trapped H2+ in Molecular Spectroscopy

Study Area: Molecular Spectroscopy, Quantum Metrology, Atomic Physics, Physical Chemistry

Location: Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification: Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics or physical chemistry, with experience in atomic/molecular/optical physics and/or molecular spectroscopy. Affinity for spectroscopy and molecular physics is essential. The ideal candidate should be bright, enthusiastic, capable of working well in a team, and eager to learn.

Description: This PhD project focuses on the precision measurements of weakly-bound states of H2+ in the THz range to investigate QED predictions. Molecular ions are selectively prepared, trapped, and sympathetically cooled using Be+ ions. The successful candidate will be involved in developing a novel ion trap for quantum-logic spectroscopy using H2+ and Be+ ions, as well as developing a continuous-wave laser system for laser cooling Be+ ions. The project offers opportunities to engage with various aspects of molecular spectroscopy, experimental physics, and quantum technologies.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit a detailed CV, diploma, a cover letter, and the names and contact details of two potential references to dr. Maximilian Beyer, Assistant Professor, via email. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Last Date: The application deadline is April 30, 2024. However, applications will be considered until the position is filled, so interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
