PhD Scholarship on Plant Cell: The University of Cologne is offering a PhD position in Plant Cell Death and Immunity as part of the Collaborative Research Centre 1403 (CRC1403). This multidisciplinary project focuses on cell death mechanisms in immunity, inflammation, and host-microbe interactions, with a specific focus on maize plants. The successful candidate will explore the molecular mechanisms of cell death signaling in maize immunity and contribute to collaborative research in both plant sciences and human disease studies.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc in Biology or related field
  • Documented skills in molecular plant biology
  • Desirable experience in plant cell biology, protein biochemistry, and transcriptome/proteome profiling
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • A strong interest in molecular plant–microbe interactions

Job Description:

  • Identify cell death-related peptide signals in maize plants
  • Study the role of phytocytokines as danger and pro-survival signals
  • Investigate plant proteases involved in regulated cell death
  • Collaborate with partners working on cell death regulation in other plant systems and human diseases
