The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden e. V. (IFW Dresden) invites applications for a PhD Candidate Position in the Junior Research Group Sustainable Nanomaterials. This exciting opportunity focuses on the reusability and recycling of nanomaterials and their electronic components within the Dresden Cluster of Excellence REC² – “Responsible Electronics in the Climate Change Era”.

PhD Scholarship: Sustainable Nanomaterials at IFW Dresden, Germany

Designation:
PhD Candidate (m/f/div) – Part-time (67%), Fixed-term for 36 months

Research Area:
Sustainable Nanomaterials, Materials Chemistry, Electronic Device Fabrication, Reuse and Recycling of Functional Materials

Location:
IFW Dresden, Campus of Technische Universität Dresden, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a comparable field
  • Ideally, experience in:
    • Synthesis and characterization of low-dimensional nanomaterials
    • Electronic components and recycling of functional materials
  • Motivation to conduct innovative research for a sustainable future
  • Good written and spoken English skills

Job Description / Main Tasks:

  • Chemical synthesis of functional, semiconducting nanomaterials
  • Processing of nanomaterials and fabrication of functional layers, heterostructures, and devices (e.g., solar cells, photodetectors)
  • Focus on reuse and recycling, developing methods for controlled assembly/disassembly of nanomaterials while preserving their properties
  • Spectroscopic, microscopic, structural, and electrical characterization of materials, layers, and devices
