PhD Scholarships in Materials Engineering: Linköping University is inviting applications for two PhD positions in Materials Engineering with a focus on additive manufacturing for aeronautical applications. These positions are funded by Vinnova, the Swedish Armed Forces, and the Swedish aviation industry through the national aeronautical research program (NFFP).

PhD Students in Materials Engineering – Additive Manufacturing for Aeronautical Applications
Research Area:
- Project CREATE: Focus on understanding the differences in creep and dwell crack propagation behavior between Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) and conventionally manufactured Ni-base alloys.
- Project DETECT: Focus on the detectability of defects using non-destructive testing (NDT) and understanding the impact of defects on the fatigue performance of additively manufactured parts with complex geometries.

Linköping University, Sweden
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Graduated at Master’s level in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Completed courses with a minimum 240 credits, with at least 60 credits in advanced courses in the aforementioned fields.
- Advanced skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Additional knowledge in metallurgy, materials and manufacturing technology, mechanical properties, solid mechanics, advanced material characterization techniques, mechanical testing, and measurement techniques is advantageous.
Job Description:
- Conduct doctoral studies and participate in research projects related to additive manufacturing for aeronautical applications.
- Collaborate with industry partners such as GKN Aerospace Sweden AB or Saab AB.
- Potential teaching or departmental duties up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
- Initial employment term of one year, renewable for up to a maximum of two years per term based on progress, with a possibility of extension to five years.
