Eligibility/Qualification
- Excellent university degree (Master’s or Diploma) in materials science, metallurgy, physics, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
- Strong interest in application-oriented fundamental research.
- High level of independence, initiative, and creativity in problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Knowledge of ceramic materials and mechanical testing methods.
- Very good command of English (spoken and written); basic knowledge of German is desirable.
Description
This PhD position is part of a collaborative research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The focus will be on:
- Designing and executing experiments to investigate mechanical properties under application-relevant conditions.
- Conducting microstructural characterization using advanced microscopy techniques.
- Analyzing mechanical behavior in correlation with microstructural features and failure mechanisms.
- Developing models to describe degradation mechanisms and predict component lifetime.
- Presenting research findings at project meetings and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
