PhD Student in AI/ML for Biomedicine: The newly established AI/ML in Biomedicine group, led by Prof. Marianna Rapsomaniki at the Biomedical Data Science Center (BDSC) at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and the University of Lausanne (UNIL), is seeking highly motivated PhD students. The focus is on AI/ML applications in oncology, providing a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative, cutting-edge research environment.

PhD Student in AI/ML for Biomedicine Scholarship

Study Area: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) in Biomedicine, specifically in Oncology

Location: Lausanne, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • M.Sc. in Computer/Data Science, Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, or a related field
  • Strong computational background in AI/ML
  • Experience with large biological datasets (e.g., single-cell, spatial omics)
  • High intrinsic motivation and scientific curiosity
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with PyTorch or similar frameworks
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Knowledge of molecular biology is a plus
  • Fluency in English (French is a plus)

Description: The PhD student will develop novel AI/ML methodologies to tackle biologically relevant problems such as biomarker discovery, disease subtyping, and drug perturbation modeling. Projects will involve collaboration with basic scientists and clinicians, applying AI/ML techniques to experimental datasets, including single-cell omics and organoid drug screens. The position offers an exceptional environment at CHUV, closely integrated with the University of Lausanne and EPFL, fostering innovation at the intersection of fundamental and clinical research.
