Eligibility/Qualification:
- Completed Masters degree in bioinformatics, microbiology, or related fields
- Proficiency in analyzing complex datasets via bioinformatics, especially metagenomics and metatranscriptomics
- Skills in functional enzyme characterization and functional genomics (cosmid library preparation) will be highly beneficial
- Fluent in English with excellent scientific writing skills
- Enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team

PhD Student in Organosulfur Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Bioinformatics
The selected candidate will contribute to the DFG-funded research project OSSY by:
- Analyzing metagenomes, metatranscriptomes, and metaproteomes of various marine chemosynthetic symbioses
- Determining the expression and functionality of predicted metabolic pathways for organosulfur compounds in these symbioses
- Performing functional enzyme characterization and functional genomics through cosmid library preparation
- Providing insights into the role of organosulfur compounds in marine chemosynthetic symbioses and their contribution to carbon and sulfur cycling
