PhD Student in Cerebellar Organoids, DKFZ, Heidelberg, Germany

Postdoc in Germany
PhD Student in Cerebellar Organoids: The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is offering a PhD opportunity in the field of pediatric cancer research, particularly focusing on medulloblastoma using cerebellar organoids. This innovative project aims to develop preclinical models to understand the tumoriogenesis and mechanisms behind different subgroups of medulloblastoma, contributing to improved treatments for affected children.

Designation

PhD Student in Modeling Pediatric Cancer Using Cerebellar Organoids

DetailsInformation
Research AreaPediatric Cancer, Medulloblastoma, Cerebellar Organoids
LocationHeidelberg, Germany
DurationInitially limited to 3 years
SalaryDoctoral salary with the usual social benefits

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A background in brain development or cancer mechanisms is desired but not required.
  • Practical experience in cell culture (preferably iPSC or organoid technologies), molecular biology, and/or animal work is desired but not essential.
  • Highly motivated individuals who can work well in both independent and team settings are encouraged to apply.

Description

The primary goal of this PhD project is to build, characterize, and exploit a novel platform of preclinical medulloblastoma models derived from human cerebellar organoids. The project aims to study how different oncodrivers affect developmental trajectories and initiate tumorigenesis. This research represents a significant advancement in understanding pediatric brain tumors, addressing the lack of accurate human models to explore pathogenesis and foster the development of effective treatments.

Key Tasks Include:

  • Developing and characterizing cerebellar organoids.
  • Investigating the mechanistic basis of Group 3/4 medulloblastoma.
  • Collaborating within a diverse, international research team.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit the following documents via the online application tool:

  1. Cover letter/letter of motivation outlining your interest in the lab and project.
  2. CV (Curriculum Vitae).
  3. MSc/BSc transcripts.
  4. Contact information for two references.

Note: Applications sent via email will not be accepted.
