Scholarship Description:
PhD Student in Environmental Science: Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Subsea Permafrost
The project aims to provide an observationally-constrained estimate of current and future methane emissions from thawing subsea permafrost. The PhD student will contribute by conducting laboratory experiments, isotopic analyses, and molecular biomarker analyses using rare subsea permafrost samples from the Russian Arctic Ocean. The research plan, developed in collaboration with supervisors, will provide quantitative data on subsea permafrost and associated biogeochemical processes.
Eligibility: Applicants must have completed a second-cycle degree, with at least 45 credits at the second cycle in one of the natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Physics, or Meteorology), including a 30-credit thesis project. Proficiency in English, strong collaborative skills, and a background in Environmental Sciences, Biology, or Geosciences are desirable.
