Eligibility/Qualification:

  • General entry requirements include a second-cycle degree or equivalent courses (240 higher education credits, 60 of which must be at the second cycle).
  • Specific entry requirements: at least 45 credits in natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Physics, Meteorology) at the second cycle, including a 30-credit thesis project.
  • Additional 30 credits in other natural sciences.
  • Strong proficiency in written and oral English is required.
  • Prior experience in laboratory experiments, mercury biogeochemistry, and/or Arctic ecosystems is beneficial.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will join a research group dedicated to investigating mercury remobilization processes from thawing permafrost soils. Fieldwork will be conducted in Tavvavuoma, one of the most extensive permafrost peatlands in Fennoscandia. The project will apply both field and laboratory approaches to assess the reduction and desorption processes of mercury along permafrost thaw gradients, with the goal of linking these processes to land destabilization, carbon remineralization, and broader biogeochemical cycles. The position is associated with the FORMAS-funded project, “Remobilization of Mercury from Degrading Permafrost Peatlands.”
