PhD Student Position in Bioinformatics: Uppsala University’s Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM) is offering a PhD student position in the field of bioinformatics and evolutionary microbiology. The selected candidate will contribute to the project titled “A two-billion-years history of infections: evolution of host-adaptation in early Gammaproteobacteria,” funded by the Swedish Research Board.
PhD Student Position in Bioinformatics/Evolutionary Microbiology
Study Area: Bioinformatics/Evolutionary Microbiology
Location: Biomedical Centre, Uppsala, Sweden
Eligibility/Qualification: The ideal candidate should hold a Master’s degree in bioinformatics, molecular biology, microbiology, microbial ecology, or a related field. Alternatively, applicants with at least 240 credits in higher education, including 60 credits at the Master’s level, or those with equivalent knowledge will be considered. Essential qualifications include documented coding skills in Python or R, experience in metagenomics and molecular evolution, a background understanding of microbial evolution, and proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional qualifications such as experience with high-performance computing clusters and large dataset handling are advantageous.
Description: The PhD student will work on the evolution of Deep-branching Intracellular Gammaproteobacteria (DIG), investigating their host-adaptation strategies and evolutionary history.
