PhD Student Position in Cell Biology Are you ready to unravel the mysteries of skeletal muscle atrophy and its regulation? Join our team at Karolinska Institutet and contribute to groundbreaking research in the field of cell biology. We are offering a PhD student position to investigate the critical role of mechanotransduction and proteasomal processes in skeletal muscle alterations induced by disuse. Discover, test, and confirm key factors that control these processes and explore how they can be modulated by countermeasures like exercise in humans.

Study Area Our research focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind skeletal muscle atrophy induced by disuse, whether due to hospitalization, aging, sedentary lifestyles, or even space travel. Specifically, we are investigating mechanotransduction and proteasomal processes’ contribution to the loss of muscle mass and function. The research combines cellular models with human and mouse skeletal muscle tissue to translate findings into potential countermeasures.
