PhD Student Position in Synthetic Organic Materials

As a PhD student in this fully funded project, you will be part of an international team exploring the fascinating world of graphene-based materials. Sponsored by a Swiss National Science Foundation Consolidator Grant, your role will involve designing, synthesizing, and characterizing open-shell molecular fragments of graphene. Your research will center on understanding their properties and π-radical reactivity, with the ultimate goal of creating new and groundbreaking graphene-based materials.

Eligibility: To be eligible for this PhD position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Completed (or soon to complete) a Master’s degree in chemistry (MSc or equivalent).
  • A strong academic background with excellent grades and awards at the university level.
  • Experience in a synthetic organic laboratory, including microscale work, air-free, and moisture-free conditions, as well as familiarity with spectroscopic techniques (NMR, UV/Vis, etc.).
  • Proficiency in English (both written and oral), with knowledge of the German language considered a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience with studying abroad (e.g., Erasmus) is welcomed.
