Study Area: Mathematical Physics, Probability Theory, Stochastic Processes, Stochastic Thermodynamics

Scholarship Description: The research group specializes in applying mathematical physics and probability theory to investigate non-equilibrium phenomena in soft matter and biophysics. The project emphasizes trajectory-based descriptions of statistical mechanics and thermodynamics, focusing on hidden degrees of freedom in low-dimensional projections. The position is part of a collaborative project with the Oren Raz group at the Weizmann Institute, Israel, funded by the Volkswagen Stiftung & Ministry of Science and Culture of the German State of Lower Saxony.

Eligibility: Candidates with a strong background and experience in statistical or mathematical physics, applied probability and stochastic processes, and/or stochastic thermodynamics are encouraged to apply. A Master’s or equivalent degree in relevant fields is required or expected to be completed soon.

Required Documents: Applicants must submit the following documents as a single PDF file to ausschreibung01-24@mpinat.mpg.de:

  • Cover letter (briefly explaining background and motivation)
  • CV, including contact details of at least one referee
  • Copy of Bachelor and Master’s certificates
  • (If applicable) Publication list

How to Apply: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. Interested candidates should submit their application package via email to ausschreibung01-24@mpinat.mpg.de.
