PhD Student Positions Available: The Almeid Lab, established in Fall 2021 as part of the Coular School of Engineering at Clarkson University in the Department of Chemical and Molecular Engineering, is seeking talented and highly motivated PhD students to join their research team. Supported by funding from the National Science Foundation, the lab is focused on developing advanced biomaterials to modulate cell behavior, including differentiation and immunomodulatory potential. If you’re a driven individual interested in leadership opportunities, protocol development, and mentoring undergraduates, we encourage you to apply.
Examples of potential thesis project topics include:
- Engineering human mesenchymal stem cell-laden hydrogels using advanced techniques like 3D bioprinting and bioorthogonal click chemistry for cartilage tissue engineering or chronic wound healing.
- Investigating the mechanisms by which biophysical and biochemical cues in the native cellular microenvironment impact human mesenchymal stem cell chondrogenesis and immunomodulatory properties.
- Analyzing the interrelationship between biomaterial physicochemical properties and cell culture conditions, exploring how biomaterials affect cells and how cells, in turn, influence biomaterials.
Designation: PhD Student
Research Area: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields
Location: Clarkson University, USA
Required Applicant Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for science and self-motivated.
