PhD student / Postdoc (m/f/d) – Homeodomain Proteins in Muscle Sub-functionalization

Postdoctoral Researcher - Germany

PhD student / Postdoc (m/f/d): We are inviting applications for a PhD student or Postdoc position in the research area of “Homeodomain Proteins in Muscle Sub-functionalization.” This interdisciplinary project aims to understand how specific combinations of homeodomain transcription factors (TFs) control downstream effector molecules to achieve distinct muscle properties. The research will be conducted with single-cell precision in the Drosophila embryonic muscle system, utilizing advanced genomic and genetic techniques. The results will shed light on the role of “homeocodes” in regulating various subroutines in muscles, including synaptic matching specificity and cellular heterogeneity within Drosophila multi-nucleated muscle.

Designation: PhD student / Postdoc (m/f/d)

Research Area: Biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field

Location: Heidelberg, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification: Candidates should have a master’s or PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field. Experience in Drosophila genetics and molecular biology is essential, and a strong interest in applying single-cell multi-omic techniques and bioinformatics for data analysis will be highly advantageous for the project. Disabled individuals with comparable skills will be preferentially considered.

Job Description: The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team and should demonstrate the ability to work independently while actively engaging in scientific discussions. The research will focus on investigating the role of homeodomain transcription factors in controlling muscle properties and cellular heterogeneity within the Drosophila embryonic muscle system. Advanced genomic and genetic techniques will be utilized to study these mechanisms with single-cell precision.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should directly submit their applications to Ingrid Lohmann via email at ingrid.lohmann@cos.uni-heidelberg.de. The application should include the following:

  • Cover letter
  • CV (Curriculum Vitae)
  • Relevant academic certificates and transcripts

Last Date for Apply: Until Position Filled

About the Department of Developmental Biology: The Department of Developmental Biology at the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS) Heidelberg is dedicated to dissecting fundamental principles of transcriptional regulation with a focus on Hox transcription factors. The department also explores the Drosophila testis to understand stem cell maintenance, differentiation, and tissue homeostasis. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and research-driven environment.
