Eligibility/Qualification

  • For PhD Candidates: Successful university degree in chemistry or a comparable degree program.
  • For Post-Doc Candidates: Successful university degree in chemistry or a comparable degree program and a doctorate in electrochemistry, physical chemistry, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field with sound knowledge of electrochemistry and battery research.
  • Skills Required:
  • Very good knowledge of polymer chemistry and polymer physics
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry
  • Familiarity with basic analytical techniques and methods
  • Experience in production and characterization of battery cells
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

Job Description

Tasks

Area A:

  • Synthesis and characterization of novel monomers and polymers for use as membranes in photoelectrochemical cells and redox flow batteries (e.g., based on polysulfones)
  • Functionalization and structural characterization of polymers
  • Characterization and testing of membranes in suitable systems
  • Evaluation of established and new synthesis routes from a sustainability perspective
  • Summary, presentation, and publication of results (in English)

Area B:

  • Characterization of the polymer membranes by means of X-ray scattering
  • Assembly and electrochemical characterization of polymer-based batteries
  • Characterization of the battery cell using 3D imaging methods (in situ/operando)
  • Summary, presentation, and publication of results (in English)

Work Environment:

  • Participation in an interdisciplinary, international team
